Summer Workshops
Helping your Students Maximize their Learning Strengths
and Manage their Struggles

- Participants will learn about the various pathways of learning, including: attention, memory, language, organization, social cognition, neuro-motor functioning and higher-order thinking.
- Participants will use case scenarios to discuss how to help a child understand complex ideas regarding their learning, how to engage in a Collaborative Problem Solving approach, and how to use a student’s strengths and affinities to develop strategies for their weaker areas.
- They will spend a unit on communication with parents, using a rubric to guide hopeful, collaborative and non-judgmental conversation with parents and to describe observed behaviors.
- In addition, participants and their schools receive 2 half days of school-based mentoring in the Fall by a Hidden Sparks learning expert.

- Participants will learn about the various pathways of learning: attention, memory, language, organization, social cognition, neuro-motor functioning and higher-order thinking, and how they interact with each other.
- Participants will then analyze their own neuro-developmental profiles and teaching style.
- They will identify strategies for students who struggle.
- They will learn to look at a student’s work and how students’ strengths and difficulties can be observed. In addition, participants and their schools receive 2 half days of school-based mentoring in the Fall by a Hidden Sparks learning expert.

| About the Instructor: Both workshops will be facilitated by Karen Kruger, who serves as a Hidden Sparks Internal Coach mentor guiding faculty members in their Hidden Sparks coaching role in yeshivas and day schools throughout New York. Ms Kruger received her master’s degree from Bank Street College and has taught in elementary and middle schools from kindergarten through eighth grade. She has also served as a field facilitator and course instructor for ‘Schools Attuned’ for the past seven years, developing curricula for workshops, mentoring teachers, and leading faculty development workshops for New York City schools. Ms. Kruger served as an adjunct professor at Bank Street College and currently works with New York City middle school teachers and administrators. |
